We are thrilled to announce the latest launch in a line of innovative and advanced products, our Editions, with the first focus being optimising the body's ultimate force multiplier - sleep.
Meet our new product: Beauty Sleep Edition!
We spend a third of our lives asleep, and yet for many of us, deep, uninterrupted is a luxury. But when you strip it back, good sleep is integral part of our biology - our bodies most powerful mode of recovery.
The science behind sleep and what naturally happens to our bodies and brains overnight is astonishing - a reminder of how incredible the body is at controlling all its complex inner systems and functioning's. Sleep is when the nervous system resets, hormones regulate, the brain clears waste, DNA repairs, immunity balances, inflammation is controlled and when the skin restores itself from the inside out. It really is our most powerful reset button.
That's why we've created Beauty Sleep Edition - a modern, intelligent capsule formulation (2 per day) that supports natural sleep rhythms, optimises the body's overnight repair, and helps you wake radiant, refreshed, and ready for whatever your day holds... because there are few things better than the feeling of a good 8 hours.
A (Brief) Science of Sleep and Renewal
Before explaining why Beauty Sleep Edition works so well, it helps to understand how our bodies like to sleep. Proper rest isn't just about hours in bed but about moving smoothly through light, deep, and REM phases - a repeating 90-minute rhythm that drives everything from cellular repair and collagen renewal, to memory processing and emotional balance.
Modern life unfortunately works against this natural architecture. Blue light, late meals, caffeine, alcohol, stress, and nutrient-poor diets disrupt melatonin and elevate cortisol when it should be falling, while irregular schedules, travel, and lack of daylight throw off our inbuilt circadian rhythms. Even many common sleep aids sedate rather than restore, flattening these essential cycles and leaving you groggy instead of refreshed. Whilst we always advocate a solid sleep-hygiene routine, we know perfect habits aren't always realistic and this is why we created Beauty Sleep Edition, to offer intelligent, science-led support on the nights when life gets in the way.
What Makes It Special?
Knowing about the importance of sleep, this product has been a long time coming. Alice Mackintosh, our Head of Nutrition explains - "When formulating Beauty Sleep Edition, we began with a long list of promising nutrients such as traditional botanicals and herbs, adaptogens, amino acids and minerals, each renowned and studied for their effect on relaxation, sleep onset, overnight renewal, and recovery. From there, we refined down to seven key ingredients - each chosen for its specific mechanism, synergy, and scientific backing."
The result is a precisely balanced blend that gently but effectively supports sleep quality, promotes deep rest, and nurtures the systems that renew you overnight, but crucially, all without the dependency, grogginess, or habit formation that come with many of the alternatives.
Where many sleep enhancing tablets and products are about sedation, Beauty Sleep is about restoration, and as with all Equi products, we take a whole-body approach to wellness for the best results.
How It Works
Beauty Sleep Edition is a natural and balanced blend of 8 nutrients, each one working both independently and together as a whole, to address the key pillars needed to help you drift off:
- Wind down: Lower evening cortisol, relax muscles
- Overnight:
- Supporting natural melatonin production
- Balance blood sugar
- Helping maintain healthy light/deep/REM balance and supporting alpha brain waves - promoting deep, natural rest
- Supporting overnight cellular renewal
- Wake up: A refreshed, clear-headed start to the day.
1. Evening Wind-Down: Calming the Mind and Body
The first step toward good sleep is relaxation - lowering cortisol, quieting the mind, and releasing physical tension. This process begins well before you get into bed, which is why we recommend taking your Beauty Sleep Edition capsules around one hour before sleep (or as you get into bed if that's easier).
Magnesium - The body's "de-stress mineral" plays a central role in the evening wind-down. Beauty Sleep Edition combines two advanced forms for optimal absorption and calm:
- Aquamin® - Derived from marine red algae off the Irish coast, this is one of the most natural, food-state sources of magnesium. It delivers a broad spectrum of trace minerals that balance and support the nervous system and ease night-time tension making it ideal for those who feel tired-but-wired in the evenings.
- Magnesium Bisglycinate - Often regarded as the gold standard for sleep and muscle recovery, this is highly bioavailable and gentle on digestion. Clinical studies suggest magnesium supplementation can shorten sleep latency (time taken to fall asleep) and improve sleep efficiency, particularly in people with low magnesium status or insomnia (1,2).
Magnesium Bisglycinate is bound to Glycine - an amino acid that itself supports sleep quality. Glycine has been shown to lower core body temperature and promote deeper, more restorative sleep, while also helping reduce next-morning fatigue. This dual mechanism makes magnesium bisglycinate both highly absorbable and synergistic for relaxation and recovery.
Together, these two forms support the parasympathetic "rest-and-digest" system, helping to lower evening cortisol, relax muscles, and prepare both body and mind for rest.
Vitamin B6 is the next ingredient, and the often-forgotten vitamin for helping the body switching off. While often recognised for its role in hormone balance, vitamin B6 is equally vital for neurological calm and restorative sleep. In its active form, pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P), B6 acts as a cofactor in the synthesis of key neurotransmitters - including serotonin, dopamine, and relaxing gamma-aminobutyric acid (known as GABA - the brain's most important neurotransmitter for inducing calm). These actions collectively influence mood, relaxation, and sleep onset.
Adequate vitamin B6 status has been linked with better mood regulation, reduced stress perception, and healthier sleep/wake cycles. A 2019 review highlighted its importance to the serotonin and melatonin pathways that underpin our emotional balance and circadian rhythm (3). Another study found that B6 supplementation enhanced dream vividness and recall, suggesting improved REM-related neurotransmitter activity (4).
By working alongside magnesium, vitamin B6 helps to soothe the nervous system, steady the mind, and create the biochemical environment for melatonin production. In tandem, these two nutrients signal to the body: it's time to wind down - setting the stage for deeper, more restorative sleep.
Completing this synergistic trio is lemon balm extract - a soothing botanical herb traditionally used to ease tension, calm the mind, and encourage restfulness. It may grow easily in your garden next to mint or rosemary, but this herb isn't to be under-estimated - clinical studies suggest lemon balm extract can help reduce restlessness and mild anxiety, supporting a smoother evening wind-down (5).
2. Supporting Natural Melatonin
Many sleep supplements rely on synthetic melatonin which can be effective in the short term for resetting circadian rhythm (for example, after travel). But long-term use can disrupt the body's natural melatonin production, leading to dependency, lighter sleep, and next-day grogginess.
Synthetic melatonin "forces" sleep by spiking melatonin levels, often overriding natural rhythms and compressing sleep architecture, essentially meaning you might fall asleep faster, but you don't necessarily sleep better. Over time, this can impair REM sleep and blunt morning cortisol, leaving you heavy-headed upon waking.
Beauty Sleep Edition takes a different approach. It supports your body's own melatonin rhythm, without overriding it.
Montmorency tart cherry powder is the star ingredient here and is one of the few food-based sources of natural melatonin. In a clinical study by Howatson et al., supplementation with Montmorency cherry juice increased endogenous melatonin and improved total sleep time and efficiency (6). The participants fell asleep more easily and experienced fewer night-time awakenings without the "knockout" or dependency effects of synthetic melatonin.
Tart cherry also works well with Vitamin B6, supporting the conversion of tryptophan to serotonin, and serotonin to melatonin. This combination promotes smoother sleep onset and a balanced sleep-wake rhythm.
The result is a gentler, more natural pathway to sleep - one that restores your circadian balance, rather than overriding it.
3. Supporting Sleep Cycles
Once you're asleep, the goal is depth and continuity - not just duration.
To support this, our specialist team of formulators included L-theanine, a calming amino acid derived from green tea (that's been decaffeinated). It promotes relaxation without sedation by increasing alpha brain waves which are linked with calm alertness. It also supports GABA meaning that it works to quiet neural activity and induce a more peaceful mental state. L-theanine also influences dopamine and serotonin pathways, promoting a smoother transition into deep, restorative sleep.
A 2023 randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study found that L-theanine supplementation improved overall sleep quality, reduced sleep latency, and enhanced subjective calm and recovery (7). Unlike sedatives, L-theanine actually optimises sleep architecture - helping to preserve natural REM cycles, the phase crucial for memory, learning, and emotional balance.
Valerian root extract has been used for centuries to promote relaxation and support restful sleep, but modern clinical trials have validated this traditional use, showing that standardized extracts can significantly improve sleep quality, efficiency, and duration, while also reducing the time it takes to fall asleep (7,8). Meta-analyses of placebo-controlled studies further confirm valerian's role in improving subjective sleep quality and promoting deeper rest without next-day drowsiness (9,10). This is what gives it its rightful place in our Beauty Sleep Edition.
Valerian appears to exert its effects by enhancing GABA signalling in the brain, slowing the breakdown of this calming neurotransmitter and increasing its availability. This mechanism complements L-theanine's effect on GABA and dopamine pathways, working in harmony to settle the mind and promote balanced sleep architecture.
This synergistic blend of ingredients supports deeper, more continuous rest - helping you move naturally through each phase of sleep, get back to sleep faster if you do wake up, and wake feeling clear-headed, restored, and radiant in the morning.
4. Overnight Cellular Renewal and Skin Recovery
Sleep is when the body goes into full repair mode. During deep sleep, growth hormone peaks, driving collagen and elastin production, muscle regeneration, and tissue repair. Meanwhile, blood flow to the skin increases, enhancing nutrient delivery and radiance.
To take this formula one step further and enhance overnight renewal, we've included Aloe vera extract - a plant revered for its ability to hydrate, soothe, and protect the skin. Naturally rich in polysaccharides, amino acids, and antioxidants, Aloe vera supports skin barrier integrity and helps defend against the oxidative stress that accumulates during the day.
Clinical research has shown that aloe vera significantly improves skin hydration, increases stratum corneum water content, and enhances skin smoothness when used consistently (11). Its antioxidant compounds also help reduce free-radical damage in the skin and support the repair of UV-induced oxidative stress (12,13).
By nourishing cellular function overnight, Aloe vera helps to restore skin vitality and luminosity - supporting the visible renewal processes that make you wake with that genuine "8-hour sleep glow."
5. Blood Sugar Stability For Fewer Night-Time Wakeups
One common yet overlooked cause of night-time waking is blood sugar fluctuation. A sharp drop in glucose can trigger cortisol and adrenaline, jolting you awake around 2-4 a.m.
Our addition of Magnesium supports healthy glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, helping stabilise blood sugar overnight. By maintaining steady energy availability, you're less likely to experience those mid-night wakeups and more likely to stay asleep through critical deep and REM phases - literally the stuff of dreams.
6. A Non-Habit-Forming Approach to Rest
It was incredibly important to us that Beauty Sleep Edition be non-sedating and non-habit-forming. That means you can use it every night, or simply as needed - such as during periods of stress, travel, or disrupted sleep routines.
Because it doesn't override your natural sleep hormones, it's safe for consistent, long-term use. Think of it as nutritional support for your circadian rhythm - a way to help your body do what it's meant to do: sleep deeply and wake restored.
Unlike synthetic melatonin or antihistamine-based "sleep aids," Beauty Sleep Edition works with your biology. You fall asleep naturally, sleep more soundly, and wake without grogginess - just clear, calm energy.

The Beauty of Restorative Sleep
When you sleep well, everything improves - your skin, focus, mood, and resilience. Deep sleep rebuilds collagen and elastin, REM consolidates memories and emotional balance, and the brain's glymphatic system clears toxins for clarity and radiance. Poor sleep, on the other hand, raises cortisol, dulls the complexion, and accelerates ageing - proof that good sleep really is the ultimate beauty treatment.
Beauty Sleep Edition isn't about sedation; it's about overnight restoration. This gentle, non-habit-forming formula supports the body's natural rhythms, helping you unwind, sleep deeply, and wake clear-headed and luminous.
Because when your sleep works harder, so do you.
