We thought it was time for an update from the Equi kitchen to give you some merry inspiration.
We’ve spent the last couple of days testing out some delicious variations to kick your usual smoothie into festive touch… think Starbucks Gingerbread mocha but without the 8 teaspoons of sugar, and a whole load of added health benefits to keep you going through Christmas.
The shops are full of chestnuts, winter berries and spices such as ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon taste even better when it’s cold outside. We love to turn our daily smoothie on its head in the run up the Christmas, especially with fresh, seasonal and local produce that's often more nutritious than imported goods.
Our nutritional supplement, Beauty Formula, can be mixed into water (and still taste good) or for those who want an added skin and energy boosting kick to their juices or smoothies.
We prefer smoothies over juices as they help to avoid spikes in blood sugar, and here we have our two favourites. These also contain added protein and healthy fats to keep you feeling festively full all morning, but feel free to continue using your regular protein powder or nuts/seeds to aid this.
Clementine, cranberry, pomegranate with a hint of rosemary.
This is a zingy number with tang which we think works really well in the morning before your usual breakfast. You could also add a little avocado or banana if you wanted to boost the viscosity but we preferred it more as a juice with a scoop of Beauty Formula to kick start our day and help support immunity and energy, both of which can be flagging the morning after your office Christmas party.
We love the cranberries as these are often something which get confined to Christmas dinner accompanying the turkey when they are actually a versatile and tasty fruit. They are also busting with vitamin C, antioxidants and are also great for the bladder.
We used:
Pear, beets, chestnut with nutmeg.
This recipe has a real festive feel and is quite filling – it could easily replace your usual porridge. It’s super yummy and we especially love the chestnuts that are rich in protein and healthy fats.
Whizz this up the night before or in the morning and take to work in a shaker to drink over the morning for the perfect beautifying boost to keep you glowing over the festive season.
